Forza Week in Review 8-11-17
Welcome to Friday, and what an awesome week in the world of Forza it turned out to be. Forza Community Writer Johniwanna here, filling in for Mechberg this week while our fearless Community Manager is enjoying some well-deserved time off. If you are in Legoland the next couple days, you might find him at the Driving School attraction and maybe you could offer him a few tips.
Now, on with the Week in Review!
Hoonigan Car Pack
Yes, it is coming! The Hoonigan Car Pack is bringing the cars of Ken Block’s motorsport-lifestyle brand to life in Forza Horizon 3 on August 15th. Best of all, you can get cars like Block’s famed Hoonicorn Mustang with 1,400 twin-turbocharged, methanol-chugging horsepower and six other incredible creations designed to “Kill All Tires” for both Forza Horizon 3 and Forza Motorsport 7 if you pre-order the digital version of Forza Motorsport 7. The pack will also be available as a stand alone purchase of Forza Horizon 3 for $6.99 on August 15th.
The cars and trucks of this pack have nothing but bad intentions when it comes to preserving rubber, but they are an absolute blast to drive. We will be putting them to the test in our August 15 livestream from the Hoonigan Garage starting at 2 p.m. on Mixer. You won’t want to miss this show hosted by myself and Design Director Jon Knoles, plus a cast of Hoonigans from the garage.
Until then, if you haven’t already watched it a hundred times, or even if you have, you have got to check out the trailer. After you have watched it, see if you noticed a few Easter eggs harkening back to the Forza Horizon 3 E3 trailer. Don Joewon Song found them. Post about what you find in the YouTube comments if you can spot them.
These cars have so many details to explore, we expect to see some amazing Forzatography once they are released , and that frankly can’t come soon enough. We hope to see you in the Mixer show on Tuesday.
Week 4 Forza Garage – USA! USA! USA!
For all the greatness that comes out of good old ‘Murica, nothing quite matches the reverence for our never ending addiction to the iconic V8 found in the cars of the USA. That’s what you will find this week in the Forza Garage. Of course there is more than just V8-powered muscle to be found in this patriotic plethora of cars and trucks.
Take for example the host of four-cylinder Fords from the earliest Escorts to the latest Focus RS that Ken Block hoons in Gymkhana Nine. If trucks are your thing, we are proud to reveal a bunch of the best Jeep’s, and other heavy duty beasts like the HUMMER H1 and the Ram Runner. Mopar fans will not be disappointed by the range of new and old from Dodge, Plymouth and Chrysler either. Don’t forget the bowtie brand and all the GM counterparts or now defunct classic American brands like AMC. Give the list in the Week 4 Forza Garage a good perusal to find your American favorites.
Heavy Metal Affliction – The Trophy Rat
Last week Heavy Metal Affliction featured a rig that at a glance will have you wondering what the goals of this radical build were. Then as the story comes together it all makes sense and will have you wishing you could build one yourself. The Trophy Rat is all trophy truck underneath with its tube frame chassis, killer suspension, and LS powerplant. On the outside you have a rusty 1937 International pickup that makes up the rat rod portion.
This is one awesome machine, and while its forte is off-roading, it can tear up the streets, or the Turn 10 Studios parking lot in this case, along with the best of them as this brief video shows.
#Forzathon – History Lesson
This weekend’s #Forzathon in Forza Horizon 3 takes a page out of history with a focus on classic racecars. Nail the “Faded Feathers” event by completing an Online Adventure in a Classic Racer to win the Lola #6 Penske Sunoco T70. You could effectively kill two birds with one stone by conquering “Superb Acceleration” and pick up 55,000 XP if your Online Adventure includes a race in it. For the record, the only way to get the Lola in Forza Horizon 3 is through #Forzathon events, so don’t miss this chance that may never come up again.
Then you have what is definitely the hardest task, “More Than Lucky” that asks you to perform 20 Lucky Escapes. That means rack up a near miss while drifting 20 times for some serious credits. Good luck with that! Counter to that tough challenge, you have the much simpler Season Opener that requires any event to be completed for a 15,000 xp bonus.
#ForzaFriday with Johniwanna
As I mentioned in the Rear View Mirror coverage of Formula Drift Seattle, I’ll be hosting this week’s edition of #ForzaFriday beginning at 3 p.m. Pacific on the Forza Motorsport Mixer channel. Blow off your Friday afternoon or evening, depending on where you are, and come join us.
Monday I wrote of possible playing Forza Motorsport 6 in the Mechberg tradition. Given the awesome new #Forzathon in Forza Horizon 3 and the fact I won’t be able to run this on Tuesday since I will be kicking it with the boys from Hoonigan, I thought we should try and win the Lola. Plus, there is a new bucket list to do with it in North Byron Crossroads. I hope to see you in the show!
- Congratulate Don JoeWon Song who hit one million downloads of his tunes in Horizon 3.
- Take a trip back to 8-bit arcade gaming in Forza Horizon 3 with @loopingstar who has cleverly combined a Spotify-driven soundtrack from the classic racer Outrun with Forza Horizon 3. He’s of course driving the right car too. Check it out!
- Sometimes karma goes in your favor as shown in this clip from @F4H_Racerz proves from Forza Motorsport 6.
