Forza Week in Review 6-8-18

Friday, June 8, 2018

Welcome to June, where we’ve been welcoming summer with a huge update to Forza Motorsport 7 alongside welcoming Forza Racing Championship drivers to our Seattle studio for some ForzaRC pre-Playoffs fun. With just days to go before the start of E3 2018, let’s recap a very busy week in the world of Forza. Welcome to the Week in Review!

‘Forza Monthly’ Debut

If you’re a regular visitor to you know we do a good deal of streaming on a weekly basis. Between Johniwanna’s weekly triple-play of shows and my own show #ForzaFriday, we’ve got you covered on lots of different angles. But that doesn’t mean we’re slowing down. This past Monday we debuted our new “Forza Monthly” streaming show, giving fans an early-access look at the cars, content, and features of the June Forza Motorsport 7 update.

During the hour-long show, Johniwanna and I were joined by Scott Lee and Chris Esaki from Turn 10 to take a deep-dive into the June update awesomeness, showing off features like the new Panning Focus option in Photo Mode (which you can see in action here in some of the images in today’s WIR), talking about our new Data Out UDP feature, as well multiplayer changes, multiclass racing, and more. John and Scott even got a chance to take a walking tour of a gorgeous McLaren 720S which joined us in the studio (courtesy of our friends at McLaren Bellevue). In case you missed it, the 720S will be part of next month’s Forza Motorsport 7 car pack – more details on that pack to come!

Judging by the response so far, I think the new show went over well and the whole team looks forward to doing even more in the future, providing the Forza community an even closer look at what we’re working on. I’d love to hear what kinds of things you’d like to see on the show – hit us up on Twitter or on the forums and let us know what you think!

June Update

If you missed “Forza Monthly” or you haven’t fired up Forza Motorsport 7 yet this month, what are you waiting for? We’ve got a fantastic update awaiting you, one that touches multiple aspects of the game. The first time you log in you’ll be greeted with a brand new “interstitial” pop-up that will keep you informed of some of the latest and greatest news in the world of Forza 7. Get into the game, and you’ll find new Photo Mode options, new multiplayer options to explore (including the ability to tune during test drive in MP lobbies, a hotly anticipated feature in the community), and more. In addition, we’ve got a brand new free car for all Forza 7 players – the 1981 Ford #6 Zakspeed Roush Mustang IMSA GT. And of course, if you missed the cars of the Hoonigan Car Pack during our pre-order window, you can get them now, either as a separate purchase, or for no additional charge if you’re an Forza 7 Car Pass owner.

ForzaRC Recap Shows

As we approach the ForzaRC Series 1 Playoffs next weekend, some of the top racers came together this week for some intense exhibition racing to accompany a recap of the series thus far. Eight of the top teams were represented from the North American and EMEA regions, including three members of TX3 who were live and in person with us in our Seattle studio, including Lightning, world #1 Hard BR, and Senna.

These were somewhat oddball races with challenges and conditions that you might not have expected. Consider Race 1 where the early screaming, sleek prototype racers took to Silverstone in the wet. Or Race 2 where the Mercedes -Benz Tankpool Racing Truck took on the 1958 Aston Martin DBR 1 and the Forza Edition Ford Escort RS Cosworth at COTA. The odd pairings coupled with fun team-based play made for some excellent on-track action across both broadcasts. Watch the YouTube coverage of the North American and EMEA races to find out how it all shook out.

Here’s a look at the seedings for the ForzaRC Series 1 Playoffs, which kick off next Saturday and Sunday. Be sure and tune in for two days of intense racing action on!

Easy as ABCS

One of the biggest features in our June update for me was the return of multiclass racing in Forza 7. We’ve spent some time making multi-class racing better than ever in Forza Motorsport 7 and we’re celebrating with the return of an all-time favorite multiplayer hopper: ABCS! The ABCS hopper is now live, letting players race on tracks in one of four classes (Class C, Class B, Class A, and Class S). This is a tried-and-true racing format in previous Forza Motorsport games; and in Forza 7, players will enjoy an even better experience with per-bucket-scoring and podium ceremonies.

One thing that I’ve heard about from players: The current ABCS lobby does not include randomization of class buckets after every race. This means that, once you enter the ABCS lobby, you will stay in the same class until you exit and re-enter the lobby. The team is aware of this and will look to add the player shuffle option to multi-class lobbies like ABCS in the future, so stay tuned.

As an ABCS die-hard, I’ll be spending most of my time in this lobby – in fact, it will be the focus of our #ForzaFriday broadcast later today. Come hang out with us on Mixer and Twitch starting at 3 p.m. Pacific and help us put this brand new multi-class lobby through its paces.

John Hindhaugh Challenge

It’s Le Mans season and we’ve got a great challenge going for those who want to test their skills on one of the most famous race tracks in the world. The ForzaRC John Hindhaugh Challenge went live earlier this week, putting “the Voice of Le Mans” as the public hotlap target in Forza Motorsport 7. You can compare your times to his by sending John a friend request on Xbox Live (GT: makem73) and then keeping an eye on the leaderboard.

Not only do we have a great opponent this month, but we’re mixing things up with cars as well. Instead of assigning a car to this event, we’ve assigned a Division – the Forza GT Division to be specific. One look at the current learderboard sees a couple of GT cars rising to the top – including the 2014 Lamborghini #63 Squadra Corse Huracán LP620-2 Super Trofeo, the 2017 Porsche #92 Porsche GT Team 911 RSR, and (my weapon of choice) the 2014 Maserati #35 M.Calamia Swiss Team MC Trofeo. Which car is right for you? Fire up the event and find out!

Barwell Lamborghini Design Contest

Our friends at The Online Racing Association (TORA) tipped us off this week to a great design competition happening now in the Blancpain GT Series. Top international GT racing team Barwell Motorsport opened a contest this week for fans to design the livery of its Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup Am Class Lamborghini Huracán GT3, as a one-off for this year’s Spa-Francorchamps 24 Hours race event. This is the car that will be driven by Adrian Amstutz, Leo Machitski, Jon Minshaw and Patrick Kujala in the 70th Edition of the famous Belgian around-the-clock classic.

The winner of the competition, as chosen by Barwell Motorsport and the drivers, may get their design actually used on the team’s car and will win two VIP tickets to the Spa 24 Hours on July 28-29, 2018. For more about eligibility, design requirements, and more, check out all the details in the TORA forum thread. Competition closes on June 24, so don’t wait too long to get started.
