Forza Motorsport Week in Review 3-4-16

Brian Ekberg
Friday, March 4, 2016

In terms of new announcements, this past Tuesday might have been the single busiest day in Forza history. Certainly I can’t remember a more eventful day in my 5+ years here at Turn 10. To quickly recap, we announced the Porsche Expansion for Forza Motorsport 6, Forza Motorsport 6: Apex for Windows 10 PCs, the Lamborghini Centenatrio as the cover car for the next great Forza game, AND our brand new Lamborghini Super Trofeo Race Series in Forza Motorsport 6. Whew! And that’s not even everything we’ve got for you in this edition of the Forza Motorsport Week in Review! Let’s get to it!

Porsche Expansion

With such busy week, it’s difficult to pick which item to lead with. I’m going to start with two things that you can do right now in Forza Motorsport 6. First up is the Porsche Expansion. Available for $20, the Porsche Expansion is your ticket into the stunning world of Porsche, featuring a curated Porsche Anthology experience and 21 fantastic Porsche models in a way that only Forza Motorsport 6 can deliver. And then there’s that brand new track – Virginia International Raceway.

My first time driving VIR was as the Forza Community watched during our livestream debut of the Porsche Pack this past Tuesday and, as expected, it’s instantly rocketed to the top of my favorite track list. Part of that attraction of course, is the newness of it. But beyond the novelty, there’s a lot to love about the track – a great layout, with long straights and fun elevation changes. There are lots of places to challenge the driver, and seven distinct layouts (plus night and wet configurations for each ribbon). It’s still going to take a while for me to feel comfortable there, but I’ll certainly enjoy the journey.

Porsche fans should also check out this week’s HMA interview with Porsche factory driver Patrick Long. In Part 1 of this two-part Q&A, Long talks about his life driving for one of the most decorated manufacturers in racing history, and much more. Look for Part 2 next Thursday!

While we’re on the subject of the Porsche Expansion, I’ve seen a number of players asking about the March car pack. This pack is coming later in the month and we’ll have more details on it in the near future. Also a quick reminder that the March car pack is the final monthly DLC pack included in the Forza 6 Car Pass.

Lamborghini Super Trofeo

While the Porsche Expansion is available for purchase now, we also announced a new race series that every Forza Motorsport 6 player can take part in: the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Race Series. The series kicked off this Tuesday with the first of three weekly Rivals events in Season 1. Today we opened the first weekly League in Season 1 as well.

The Season 1/Week 1 Leagues gift car

So, two Seasons of awesome racing in Lamborghini Super Trofeo race cars. The point of all this? Why, collecting cars, of course! In addition to variant liveries for each weekly event, created by Robin on the Community Team, all players in Season 1 will be trying to earn an exclusive bonus car in Forza Motorsport 6 – the 2015 Lamborghini #63 Squadra Corse Huracán LP620-2 Super Trofeo.

While you can read the story for more detail on the weekly cars and criteria to earn them, here’s the basic breakdown on gift cars, courtesy of Turn 10’s RBW Triton, from the Super Trofeo forum thread:

Season 16 cars (3 from rivals and 3 from leagues)
Season 2 – 6 cars (3 from rivals and 3 from leagues)

Collect 3 cars in Season 1 to get the Bonus Huracán that lets you participate in Season 2
To get the super trophy Huracán you need to get all 6 cars from Season 2.

How to get a car when doing rivals?
- Bronze = Set a clean lap
- Silver = be top 15% on the leaderboard
- Gold = be top 5% on the leaderboard

How to get a car when doing a League?
- Finish in the top 50% on the leaderboard

We’ll be keeping up to date with the Super Trofeo race series throughout March and into April so get ready for an awesome six weeks of racing and good luck to everyone who takes part!

In other Lamborghini news, we also opened a new Cycled Production multiplayer hopper this week, starring a number of awesome Lambo cars to play. We’ll be showing it off in Friday’s edition of #ForzaFriday, our weekly Friday livestream show on Twitch.

Lamborghini Centenario

As if the Super Trofeo series wasn’t news enough, we also dropped even more Lamborghini fun this week, announcing from the Geneva International Motor Show a new collaboration with Lamborghini that will see the all-new Centenario as the cover car for the next title in the Forza racing franchise. I’d love to tell you more but you’ll need to stay tuned until E3 2016 to learn more! In the words of Tom Petty, “The waiting is the hardest part…”

Apex Announced

Forza Motorsport 6: Apex is coming to Windows 10 PCs this spring. [As an aside, when this is the FOURTH news item in a weekly update, you know things are crazy around Turn 10 HQ.] That’s right, the long-awaited PC debut for Forza is finally happening and it’s coming this spring, for free. Forza Motorsport 6: Apex is a powerful demonstration of what the ForzaTech™ engine can do when unleashed by DirectX 12 at resolutions up to 4K and is the first step in Microsoft’s commitment to creating amazing Forza experiences for Windows 10 PC gamers.

Look for more on Apex in the future! In the meantime, you can keep the discussion in going in our newly created Forza Motorsport 6: Apex discussion forum.

Community Bounty Car Delivered

Congratulations to all the winners of the 1977 Aston Martin V8 Vantage, the exclusive bonus car available to all Forza Motorsport 6 who beat RBW Triton’s time in February’s Community Bounty Rivals event. More than 800 people managed to beat Triton, and 100 more random winners received the car, so congratulations to everyone who scored that sweet Aston. If you didn’t get the car, look for more ways to win it in the future!

Goodbye Kim Wolfkill

I’d like to take a moment to bid farewell to a member of Turn 10 this week. For the past six years, Kim Wolfkill has been a member of the business development team and he will soon be making the move back to his editorial roots as the new editor in chief of Road & Track magazine. Kim has been a great member of the Forza team– in fact, you’ve probably seen his face on camera from time to time – and while it’s sad for us to see him go, it is exciting to think about where Kim will take the venerable automotive magazine in the future. From all of us here at Turn 10, I’d like to wish Kim the very best in the future. We look forward to seeing your work in the magazine in the near future!
