Forza Motorsport Week in Review 3-25-16
A brand new livery debuted with one of the top drifters in the world, two eSports championships get underway this week, and our Super Trofeo series has moved into Season 2. Yeah, you bet this is a jam-packed Week in Review, so let’s dive in!
Turn 10 Tuerck’d
On Monday we were joined by some special guests here at Turn 10: pro drifter Ryan Tuerck and YouTube star SLAPTrain, who were in town as Tuerck got some testing in at the Ridge Motorsports Park in (relatively nearby) Shelton, WA ahead of the upcoming drifting season. While in town they dropped by Turn 10 to give us and the rest of the Forza community a sneak peek at the brand new livery that Tuerck is running on his 2016 Scion FR-S. That very same livery was recreated in expert detail thanks to Forza community member TUS Chunky and we had the chance to show it off live in our Forza Motorsport Twitch channel, and chat with both Ryan and Slap about the project and a host of other topics.
If you missed the show live, you can watch the replay on Twitch or check out the video that Ryan’s team at Donut Media launched yesterday recapping the trip to Turn 10 and the testing session over at The Ridge.
Big thanks to Ryan and Slap and the folks at Donut Media for coming by and shout-out to TUS Chunky for bringing the livery into Forza 6. If you want to grab the livery for your own collection, Chunky’s been kind enough to share the livery with the entire community. To get it, first get a 2013 Toyota GT86, and then search under creator TUS Chunky, and look for the livery named Ryan 2016 FD.
Formula E Race Off Pro Series
It’s competition season in the world of Forza Motorsport 6 and we have a number of series either ongoing or just starting up. First up this week is the first Rivals event for the Formula E Race Off Pro Series. The first time trial is now up in the Community Monthly section of Rivals and takes place on the super-tight confines of the Long Beach East circuit. This event is open worldwide and will give players a chance to compete for a chance to be one of ten players invited to next week’s online finals, which will take place on Saturday, April 2, coinciding with Formula E’s race at Long Beach.
With a short course like Long Beach East and those ever-present walls always posing a threat, the margin for error is practically zero. As a result, the differences between the top ten times is likely going to be in the hundredths of seconds, if not thousandths. If you’re hoping for a spot in the finals, you’ll need all the help you can get. Here’s a great tutorial video posted this week by Forza community member aTTax Johnson, which includes some important tips on how to make the most of a lap on this circuit:
Major League Gaming Tournament
If you’re looking for some more head-to-head competition, make sure you are signed up for the Forza Motorsport 6 Major League Gaming tournament! The first round of competition between individuals and teams happens this weekend, with singles competing on Saturday, March 26, and teams battling it out on Sunday, March 27. If you haven’t signed up, there’s still time! In this series of online races, you’ll be facing off in a variety of cars and tracks and racing for a chance to compete in the live final event, which will be broadcast on MLG’s New York City studios on May 21.
Good luck to all the competitors out there!
Formula E Race Off 2 – Bird vs. d’Ambrosio
Last weekend Formula E racers Sam Bird and Jerome d’Ambrosio faced off in the second Formula E Race Off event at ESL Studios in Leicester, UK. Racing Formula E cars in Forza Motorsport 6, Bird and d’Ambrosio took on Forza speed demons like Raceboy77 in a live online race. The two pro drivers raced neck-and-neck for most of the event and talked some trash along the way. Congratulations to Maxime Potar for his win at the event as well. If you want to see how it all went down, check out the recap video that Formula E posted this week:
Super Trofeo Season 2
Season 1 has wrapped for the Forza Motorsport 6 Lamborghini Super Trofeo series; tons of Lambo gift cars have been sent, and now the real work begins. If you consider Season 1 as the “qualifier” for Season 2, then what we have now is a bunch of awesome drivers who are all competing to win the ultimate prize – a liveried version of our bonus car, the 2015 Lamborghini #63 Squadra Corse Hurácan LP620-2 Super Trofeo. That prize car will only be won by a select few races; folks skilled enough to earn all six gift cars over the next three weeks of competition.
This week’s Rivals event, taking place on Laguna Seca has been live as of Tuesday, and the Season 2, Week 1 League is now live as well. As always we’ll be sending out the Season 2, Week 1 cars after this week’s event close on Monday night. Unlike Season 1, where you could afford to skip a week and still get the Lambo bonus car, in Season 2 every week and every event counts. Good luck to everyone who’s competing and stay tuned for an update next week!
APEX Q&A Part 2 – Dan Greenawalt
Last week, we featured an interview with J.F. Musial, on the documentary film he produced, “APEX: The Making of the Hypercar” and this week, Johniwanna caught up with Dan Greenawalt, who appears in the film to offer his perspective on the unique cars that are featured. The conversation featured in this week’s edition of HMA touches on a wide range of topics discussed in the film, and is well worth your time.
That wraps up another week in the Forza universe. Look for our regular weekly #ForzaFriday livestream coming at you beginning at 3 p.m. Pacific over on our official Twitch channel. I’ll be there hitting some multiplayer racing; send me a friend request at my GT: Mechberg if you want to get in on the action. See you on the track!
