Forza Motorsport Week in Review 2-19-16
Could RBW Triton have already turned in his final Community Bounty time? That all-important time, which the entire Forza Motorsport 6-playing community is aiming for, currently sits at a respectable 1:38.23, more than a second faster than it was noted in last week’s edition of the Week in Review. I tracked down Triton (aka Turn 10’s Elliott Lyons) this week to ask if this was indeed his final time and he was sly in his response. While I’m not certain how much more time he has left in him, I wouldn’t put it past him to try and improve on that 1:38.
One thing’s for sure, everyone will know Triton’s final time by noon on Friday, Feb. 26. That means you’ll have the final weekend of February to try and beat his final time before the event closes on Feb. 29. And remember, your prize for chasing down the bounty this month is an exclusive bonus car – the 1977 Aston Martin V8 Vantage. There’s three ways to get the car, actually: beat RBW Triton’s time, be one of 100 randomly selected winners who will get the car regardless of where they fall on the leaderboard, or correctly guess RBW Triton’s final time on the leaderboard. Sorry if you didn’t get a guess in on the forums – we’re no longer accepting entries – but good luck to everyone who is trying to get the car.
Now, on with the rest of the Week in Review!
RVM and HMA
Our own Johniwanna had some great content for you this week. First up was an in-depth look at Rally Sweden along and its famous jump, Colin’s Crest. Named after rally legend Colin McRae, this crest has become something of a legendary contest within Rally Sweden itself, with an award going to the driver who manages the longest jump off the titular crest. Check out the story to catch up on the rally winners and losers, and to see who had the most air time off Colin’s Crest.
With racing season about to kick off in earnest – the Daytona 500 airs next Saturday – Rear View Mirror is about to kick into high gear. Don’t miss it.
Elsewhere this week’s edition of Heavy Metal Affliction pulled back on its usual car content to focus on something else Forza related – the soundtrack to Forza Motorsport 6. In Part 1 of his interview with Forza 6 composers Kaveh Cohen and Michael Nielsen, as well as Turn 10’s Audio Director Nick Wiswell, John goes deep in the process of how the Forza 6 score was created. If you’re of a musical bent like me, or you just want to peek behind the curtain at a fascinating aspect of game creation, the interview is worth your time.
Stay tuned next week for Part 2 of the interview, where John takes the conversation with Michael and Kaveh into more familiar HMA territory, with a discussion of the two musicians’ love of cars as well as some highlights from each composer’s personal garage. Look for the story next Thursday!
… and counting! That’s how far along we’ve come on posting cars in the Forza Motorsport 6 Cars section. As of this writing, we’ve got 25 manufacturer’s posted, from Abarth to GMC, complete with amazing community created photography throughout (the Formula E section alone will get your mouth watering). We’re continuing to post new manufacturers and more amazing community shots each weekday until we get all of Forza 6’s cars posted. Keep checking in to keep up with the latest additions!
2016 DICE Awards
We were recently very humbled to learn that Forza Motorsport 6 managed to hold off some stiff competition to scoop the “Best Racing Game” Award at the prestigious DICE awards. If you’ve got an hour and a half free and fancy catching the whole of the awards show, just check out the video below.
If NFL Teams Were Cars
The 2015/16 NFL season may be over but, for some fans, it never ends. That’s why I wanted to share a link to an amusing image that went around Turn 10 inboxes this week. The premise is simple: “If Your Favorite NFL Team was a Car, This Is What Model It Would Be.” Whether it’s the San Francisco 49ers represented by the Google Self-Driving Car, or our own Seattle Seahawks rolling as the Lamborghini Aventador, the images and captions are worth a laugh.
While this is obviously USA-centric, this got me thinking: What would be the Barclays Premier League equivalent? Which car represents the surprising Leicester City? How about the woeful Aston Villa? And can we get some liveries made of these EPL-themed cars? I’m personally all in for a Crystal Palace-liveried 2002 Nissan Skyline…
Earlier this week, I was a guest on the Microsoft Studios livestream, playing Forza Motorsport 6 with Chris Bishop, who works with the Xbox Marketing team on Forza. We had a great time and it certainly got me revved up for my weekly dose of Forza 6 that is #ForzaFriday. As always, I’ll be hitting the track with as many of my fellow Forza fans as is humanly possible during our two-hour broadcast, which kicks off at 3 p.m. Pacific on our official Twitch channel. See you there!
