Forza Motorsport Week in Review 1-16-15

Friday, January 16, 2015

January 12 might be my favorite day of this year. Sure, it happens to be my birthday but that’s not what I mean; the twelfth of January in 2015 was the day we announced the latest Forza Motorsport game: Forza Motorsport 6! Now, the announcement of Forza 6 is a great thing, to be sure, but it was just as awesome to see how and where we made the announcement – at the the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Announcing a Forza game at the NAIAS makes sense – after all, we do love our cars and there are few bigger car shows in the world than Detroit. But beyond the expectations of Forza 6, it’s that much more exciting to announce with our friends at Ford – and to feature the amazing all-new Ford GT on the cover of Forza 6. Naturally the new GT will be playable in Forza 6 (along with several models in the Ford Performance line, including the Shelby GT350 Mustang and the F-150 Raptor, which also were unveiled off at the Ford press conference on Monday).

Now, while Forza 6 is indeed official, the reality is we likely won’t be talking much about the game until closer to E3. I know, I know, that’s a long time to wait. But, as I said in the official announcement story, we’re just getting started with 2015 and we’ll have lots of news in the coming months that I think you guys are going to love.

Before we kick off the rest of the Week in Review, check out our NAIAS photo gallery on Facebook, featuring great photographs of some of our favorite cars at the show. Lots of Fords to be sure, but there are tons of great shots in the gallery, featuring cars from all over the automotive world.

Horizon 2 Wins at IGN

Great news from the folks at IGN this week – Forza Horizon 2 took home the honors as Best Racing Game and the People’s Choice Award for best racing game. Thank you to everyone who voted for us!

In addition, this week we learned that Forza Horizon 2 also was nominated as a finalist for the 2015 D.I.C.E. Awards in the Racing Game of the Year category. The 18th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards will be held on February in 5 Las Vegas.

Mango’s ForzaFUEL

Forza fans might remember the #ForzaFUEL competition we had last year just before the launch of Forza Horizon 2, featuring automotive and games journalists taking a road trip through southern Europe in a cavalcade of amazing supercars. Forza video creator extraordinaire Domestic Mango was along for the ride and has put together a great recap video of his adventure. Stellar work as always, Mango!

Forza 5 vs. Real Life – The Nürburgring

YouTube user Gmr336 created a great video featuring a side-by-side comparison of the real Nürburgring against the version we all know and love in Forza Motorsport 5. As he explains, the car used in the real life footage is the 2009 Nissan GTR and the 2012 Nissan GT-R Black Edition is used in the Forza 5 footage. Check it out and see how closely the two versions of the Green Hell compare.

RIP VM

Sad news this week, as we learned that long-time racing organization Virtual Motorsports is shutting down. VM was a great part of the racing game community and we’re sad to see it go. I’d like to give personal shoutouts to both Ash and (former Forza Forums mod) Ryan, who ran the site for so long and thank them for their contributions to our beloved hobby. Hope to see you guys around in the future!

That about wraps it up for this week, folks. As usual, I’ll be livestreaming some Forza for our #ForzaFriday show over at our official Twitch channel today beginning at 3 p.m. Pacific. I’ve also been kicking around the idea of a new Forza-related stream that I’ll talk about more during the show. Hope you guys can join me then and we’ll see you next week!
