Forza Motorsport Week in Review 12-5-14

Fender benders suck. On Thursday, I was unlucky enough to be involved in a minor traffic scrape – no injuries thankfully, and only minor damage to my car’s front fender. But taking time out for insurance claims and estimates… none of it is fun, even if all of it is necessary. So, I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to talk about something other than insurance adjustors and claim numbers. Let’s talk some Forza, shall we?

December kicked off with two of my favorite things: new Forza Rewards and new cars in Forza Horizon 2. Each month, we’re sending out special gifts to Forza players via Forza Rewards and, if you haven’t redeemed your Rewards yet, you’ve still got time! Head over the Rewards section of the site (make sure you are logged in with your Xbox Live account) or check out our Forza Hub app on Xbox One to claim your stuff. Now, about those new cars…

NAPA Chassis® Car Pack

Each month lots of Forza fans ask us which cars will make into our monthly DLC packs. The most popular request of late has been McLaren’s latest, the 650S Coupe. As we explain in our description of the car the 650S is much more than merely a 12C with a facelift – it may have lines resembling other McLarens but it’s also lighter, faster, and, frankly, more fun to drive.

As Johniwanna pointed out during his weekly Tuesday Forza livestream this week, out of the box the 650S feels eminently more drivable than the 12C (some of you might remember taming that beast in stock form during last year’s Mechberg Community Bounty). The 12C takes some serious coercion to get it around a track – by contrast the 650S feels more pliant and willing to do exactly what the driver wants. In short, it’s awesome and we’re glad to debut it in Forza.

The 650S is just the start; the NAPA Chassis® Car Pack brings five new cars to the world of Forza Horizon 2, including the off-roading 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged, the 1970 Buick GSX, and more. Let’s not forget this month’s free car as well – the 2002 Lotus Esprit V8, which is available to all Forza Horizon 2 players at no additional charge.

We’ll be showing off these cars and more during our weekly #ForzaFriday livestream, which will kick off at our regularly scheduled 3 p.m. Pacific start.

Mazda Design Challenge

Mazda fans, if you love the Miata and you love painting cars, we’ve got the ideal contest for you. Starting this week, fans can put their design skills to the test in the Mazda Design Challenge in Forza Horizon 2. (Note that this contest is open only to U.S. residents). Simply grab the 1994 Mazda MX-5 Miata in Forza Horizon 2, put your best paint job on it, and share it in the game with the description “MX5contest”. Two lucky semi-finalists will be flown to Austin, Texas to compete for the Grand Prize, at one of the largest industry conferences and festivals in the nation. (Hint: It’s not North by Northwest!) The deadline for entries is January 4, so get to painting now and good luck!

Club Competition in Forza Horizon 2

Last week, we had a cross-game Rivals event to celebrate Thanksgiving week. Players competed in Rivals events across both Forza Motorsport 5 and Forza Horizon 2 for millions of credits in prizes. Congratulations to BAM ASIX13 and Vigilante HD, who set the top times in Forza 5 and Horizon 2 events respectively, as well as to our lucky random winner SalientLemon1. The overall cross-event winner was Fast Peregrine, who managed the best combined time (3:50.964) across both events. Thanks to everyone who took part in this fun series, we hope to do it again soon!

Starting today, we’re going to have another fun event for players to try out – this time just in Forza Horizon 2. This time, we want to shine the spotlight on clubs a bit. Check out the new event called “Clubbed Up” in Forza Horizon 2 and get ready to represent for your Horizon 2 club! Here’s how it will work: After the weekend, we’ll take a look at the leaderboards for the “Clubbed Up” event and tally up the top 200 finishers. We’ll be looking for the Horizon 2 club that has the MOST players in the top 200. Those players will split a bounty of 5 million credits. So, now’s the time to rally your club and get them driving this event. Good luck!

Here’s the rest of this month’s new Rivals events in Forza Horizon 2:

Let’s Buy the Bandit’s Trans Am

Old-school Forza community members know that we’ve got mad love for the original “Smokey & The Bandit” film, starring Burt Reynolds, Jackie Gleason, and Sally Field. (Remember the community movie night from a few years back?) Besides the actual stars, the hero of that film was undoubtedly the Bandit’s 1977 Trans Am, a car you can drive in Forza Horizon 2. It’s a classic of automotive film and, apparently, Burt Reynolds is putting his own ’77 Bandit Trans-Am for sale, according to an article this week on Jalopnik.

I’m not saying I want us all to pool our collective resources and make a bid on this car and share ownership amongst the entire Forza Community. That would be wrong. But, then, I’m not NOT saying that either. If you guys want to start bidding on the car and then let me drive it every once in a while, what can I do to stop you? Happy bidding!

Be sure and tune in to our #ForzaFriday livestream today at 3 p.m. Pacific. I’ll be checking out the new cars from the NAPA Pack, as well as attempting to get Club More Oven off to a good start in the Clubbed Up Rivals event. Be there on our official Twitch channel!

See you Monday with another winter edition of Rear View Mirror!
