Forza Motorsport Week in Review 10-16-15

Brian Ekberg
Friday, October 16, 2015

This past weekend saw the running of the annual Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, Australia’s premier motorsport event. Xbox had a big presence at the race, including running the Xbox Racing #17 Ford Falcon FG X in the race itself. In addition, a select group of Forza fans – winners of the recent Drive to Win challenge held in Forza Motorsport 6 – was on hand for the race and to take part in some trackside challenges along the way.

In addition, our own Johniwanna was on hand at the event (flying all the way to Australia on short notice, no less). Look for a full report on the event from him in the near future; in the meantime, here’s a quick bit about his trip:

Tuesday afternoon I was working at my desk when I got the word they wanted me to attend the Bathurst 1000, which of course is in Australia, 8,000 miles away. I didn’t flinch as I booked my flight and got ready to catch the first flight out the next day. Twenty hours later I landed in Sydney and caught the bus on which I met a crew of folks that would be my compatriots in sharing the “Great Race.”

I’ll save the rest of the story for my coverage on Monday, but, in short I must say the best way to enjoy one of the most famous races in the world is when you have a car entered and all the amenities of a corporate suite to intensify the awesomeness. I met the Stig, Will Power, Dick Johnson and a ton of really cool race fans. It was an experience I will never forget. I took a ton of photos as I hiked around Mount Panorama, here is another to go with the WIR thumb shot. See you in RVM next week.

Stay tuned for John’s full Bathurst recap soon. Now, on with the Week in Review!

Race for the Record

We’ve got a brand new contest happening starting today in Forza Motorsport 6. Sponsored by our friends at the Microsoft Store, this event, known as the “Race for the Record” challenge will feature the 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R (stock only) racing at Watkins Glen Short. Set your best time for a chance to set a brand new world record and for a chance to win a brand new Ford Mustang GT, courtesy of Microsoft Stores! Yes, that’s right, I said you could win a car just for playing Forza. Read the full rules for additional details on eligibility and how to get involved, and good luck to everyone who participates.

Forza Horizon 2 Ten-Year Car Pack

The Forza Horizon 2 Ten Year Anniversary Car Pack is now available! This ten-car pack is available to all players in Forza Horizon 2 at no additional cost but you will need to go to Forza Hub to get the pack. To get your cars, open up the free Forza Hub app and navigate to the “Games” tab. From there, find the “Forza Horizon 2” tab and click A. Look for the “Ten Year Anniversary Car Pack” offer and click the A button. That link should take you to the offer on the Xbox Marketplace which you can redeem for your cars.

Have fun and enjoy the cars!

Leagues Update

We’re adding several new League events in Forza Motorsport 6 this weekend. Fire up those IndyCars and the Lotus F1 car, because the Ghost League is moving to X Class! In addition, we’re adding the Modern GT League (with PI limited to 880), as well as a special Weekend League that will only be available, you guessed it, this weekend! Grassroots/Enthusiast/Professional League players will be playing the Ultimate SpoCom League in B Class, while Pinnacle and Elite players will be competing in an S-Class Sim League. Good luck and happy racing!

Horizon 2 Up For Golden Joystick

Forza Horizon 2 has been nominated for “Best Xbox Game” in the 33rd Annual Golden Joystick Awards. There are tons of other worthy games lined up in each of the categories available for voting so head on over and let your voice be heard (and don’t forget Horizon 2 when you get to the Xbox section!)

C7 Racing Footage from 24 Hours of Daytona

If you’ve been playing Forza Motorsport 6 you have an idea of what it’s like to drive at Daytona at night. How does the in-game experience compare to the real thing? Check out this helmet-cam footage from the 2014 24 Hours of Daytona, featuring Tommy Milner lapping his Corvette C7.R around the track during practice, as well as hanging out in and around the pit lanes, team garage, and more.

Ferrari Stock: RACE

If you’ve ever thought about throwing your support behind Ferrari in a financial way – but can’t afford the price tag of a typical Prancing Pony model – then know that the venerable supercar manufacturer will soon be listed on the New York Stock Exchange. That’s right, you’ll soon be able to buy stock in Ferrari. According to a story on Jalopnik, Fiat Chrysler, the owners of Ferrari, is selling off 10 percent of the company to the general public via an initial public offering. The company expects shares to start at around $50 at the start and, perhaps not surprisingly, it will be trading under the stock symbol RACE.

Don’t forget we’ll be broadcasting live from 3-5 p.m. on our official Twitch channel, playing some Forza Motorsport 6 as we get ready for the weekend.

Finally this week, a peek at something big that arrived in the mail on Thursday morning. Any guesses as to what these are? The answer in Monday’s edition of Rear View Mirror!

Have a great weekend everyone!
