Welcome to the official Forza Motorsport 2 Frequently Asked Questions page. As with all FAQs, the purpose of this destination is to collect all the daily questions we get bombarded with -- many of which are repeats -- into one handy information resource for the Forza Motorsport traveler. And thanks to the wonders of the Internet, we'll be updating this page often to reflect the latest trends and inquiries surrounding the game. If you have further questions not covered by this FAQ, please email us (Turn 10 Studios) -- forzafb@microsoft.com. We'll try and get back to you as soon as possible -- if nothing else, just to let you know we've posted your answer here on this FAQ page. Thanks.
Forza Motorsport 2 In-Game Questions:
Q: When I try going into the Auction House, it says that I've been banned due to violation of Xbox Live Terms of Service. Why? And how long does this ban last?
A: If you've been banned from either Auction House/Gifting or playing online with Forza Motorsport 2 altogether, you've likely done one or both of the following: Posted a car with an inappropriate (read: nudity, drugs, racist) livery design to the Auction House, or glitched the game to cheat on the scoreboards. Both of these actions violates Xbox Live Terms of Service that you agreed to when you signed up for your Live account, and are punishable by bans. For inappropriate liveries, your first-time ban is a week (7 full days) and your second-time ban will be permanent. If you've posted hateful, racist, or Neo-Nazi imagery, the ban is an instant permanent ban. We're sending the message that if your goal out there is to ruin someone else's good time with Forza 2, then we don't want you in our community. Of course, if you have any questions at all about the bans we've issued, please email us your concerns at forzafb@microsoft.com.
Q: I am receiving a pop-up message in-game saying that my "profile has been tampered with" and I am asked to delete my save game and start over. What did I do wrong?
A: If you're getting the tampered profile message in Forza 2, it means that the game has detected hacking or duping attempts on your profile and has rendered your save game invalid for further use. The most common cause of this is backing up your profile with an unsupported 3rd party backup tool, using auctions/gifting, restoring the backed-up profile, and trying to use auctions/gifting again. We consider this sort of behavior to be cheating because it can be used to duplicate locked liveries and sell unlimited copies of the same car, and have taken this step to counter it. The only way to resume playing Forza 2 is to delete your profile and start over. If you believe you've received this tampering message in error, continue reading below...
Q: I can't seem to access the Auction House or gift cars because the game tells me that I've tampered with my profile and I know I clearly haven't. What gives?
A: If you've received a tampered profile message and you know you haven't actually tampered your profile (i.e., duped cars by reloading a backed-up profile), there is a way to get you out of this jam without having to wipe your beloved save game -- here's how:
To help you with your problem, I need your Gamertag and Windows LiveID PUID (or unique ID). Huh? What's a PUID you say? The easiest way to find out your PUID is for you to go to this link and scroll all the way down the page. There will be a value named “Unique ID” positioned just above the Save/Cancel buttons. To log in, you needs the exact same Windows LiveID that is linked to your Gamertag. Please email me (forzafb@microsoft.com) the value named “Unique ID” positioned just above the Save/Cancel buttons on the page, and don't forget to include your Gamertag in your email. When you include your Gamertag, it's very important that you give us the exact spelling and capitalization of your Gamertag, otherwise our system will give us a mismatch on your name and PUID.
We'll try to get your account fixed as soon as we can, so please be patient. Oh, and for those of you who got the tampered message because you did in fact try to dupe cars to exploit on the Auction House, don't bother emailing us to lift your ban. All it takes is one look on the server to see that you've duped and you'll only end up making yourself look that much sillier.
Q: I've been setting record-breaking laptimes in multiplayer mode by having a buddy push me across the finish line for an extra boost of speed and now my Forza 2 scoreboard times have been wiped. Did I break the rules?
A: If you take a look at this thread, you'll see that a group has begun to monitor griefing of the scoreboards by those who set Free Run lap times by having a buddy push them across the start/finish line for extra speed boosts. At Turn 10, we do consider this a form of cheating, and at the very least, poor sportsmanship and griefing -- punishable by having your scoreboard times wiped as a warning. If you continue to set griefed times to the scoreboards, we may consider banning your Gamertag from setting laptimes altogether. We know for 99% of you out there, this isn't going to an issue and shouldn't be something that you even think twice about.
Q: Forza 2 has a bunch of downloadable stuff available on Xbox Live Marketplace. Can you tell me more about these DLC packs?
A: Since the game's debut in May 2007, Forza Motorsport 2 has gotten a few DLC add-ons released on Xbox Live Marketplace. There are currently 2 car packs (the free Nissan tournament pack and the September car pack with 11 cars which costs 400 MS points), a special one-off Peugeot 908c R1 race car (50 MS points), and the Twin Ring Motegi track (which comes with 4 ribbons and costs 600 MS points).
Q: When racing online some cars show up as big blobs. Is there something wrong with my game?
A: The cars that show up as white blobs are cars released as Downloadable Content (DLC) on Xbox Live. These cars will only appear on your screen once you either purchase the DLC Car Pack from the Xbox Live Marketplace, or download one free car that will allow you to view the rest of the cars from the same pack in game. For instance, the free car that needs to be downloaded in our first DLC car pack is the “Seat Leon Cupra”, that is available in the Xbox Live Marketplace. Once you have downloaded this car you will be able to see the cars of other players who are using the same DLC pack. Each DLC pack will have one free car to encourage all players to download the pack.
Q: So what happens if I have not purchased the DLC track and join a multiplayer host that decides to force DLC tracks in the game options?
A: If you do not have DLC tracks downloaded to your box, you will not be able to ready up in the multiplayer lobby. Also, the host will be notified that not all players are ready and that he will have to force a launch. If the host decides to force launch the lobby, you will remain in the lobby and can communicate with other players if the host has voice chat between spectator and players turned on as an option. Note that you will also not be able to spectate the match.
Q: I have won a tournament race but do not show up in the bracket for the next round. Why are the wrong people advancing to the next round?
A: You have most likely suffered from a "split lobby"; a problem that occurs when two users cannot connect to each other due to strict NAT settings. As a result two competition rooms are created, yet only the results from one room are accepted by the server. This means that players will not be advancing to the next round even if they placed first in their tournament room. In order to prevent this from happening we advise that all players connect directly to their modem when entering a tournament room. This will lower the chances of those players running into this problem. If you experience a split lobby the best thing to do is e-mail us immediately at forzafb@microsoft.com. We will do our best to re-schedule the race.
Q: My game freezes when I go into my Career Garage? What can I do to fix this?
A: We have seen reports of this happening, and have determined that this issue occurs when users have a very large collection of cars with customized liveries. In order to prevent your game from freezing you can press “X” in the garage to bring up a list of cars that will allow you to navigate without having to load all the individual paintjobs. We also recommend that you use the Design Catalogue if you have duplicate cars with different paintjobs. You can save designs into the catalog and delete the duplicate car, thus clearing un-necessary cars from your garage.
Q: My car’s Performance Index (PI) Index doesn’t increase after adding engine parts. Is this another glitch?
A: The PI system in Forza Motorsport 2 uses many different aspects to determine the overall quality of a car on the track. Many times a car with too much horsepower and not enough handling will suffer on the track due to being slow around the corners. Depending on the track, however this sort of car can be used effectively. If your car’s PI index is not increasing when you are adding more parts to it, it is because the cars performance can suffer when there is excessive power that cannot be transferred correctly to the ground.
Q: Word on the street is that there are cars which are normally unattainable in Forza 2 and they go by the term "limited edition" or "unicorn." What the heck?
A: That's correct, there are cars in Forza 2 which you can only obtain through special means. Before the launch of Forza 2, we held a promotion whereby if you preordered the game, you received an Xbox Live Marketplace code to download a special custom Forza 2 Nissan Fairlady Z (the cover car of our North America and Asian edition). Additionally, if you purchased one of our limited edition Forza 2 box sets, which included a Forza 2 Collector's Edition book, you should also have received codes to unlock three Limited Edition cars. Finally, there are three unicorn cars you can only obtain by outbidding your fellow Forza 2 players in our online Auction House.
Here's the complete list of "rare" cars in Forza 2:
Pre-order Car:
Limited Edition Cars:
- 2003 Ferrari Challenge Stradale
- 2006 Saleen S281E
- 2006 Subaru impreza 204
Unicorn Cars:
- 35th Anniversary Chevrolet Camaro SS
- Lotus Exige Espionage 2000
- Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI TME
Q: I've purchased and downloaded a car pack from Xbox Live Marketplace but don’t see the new cars in my Garage. What's the deal?
A: In order for you to obtain the cars that you have recently purchased/downloaded off Xbox Live Marketplace, you have to first buy them from the in-game dealerships; each car is available for purchase in its corresponding dealership. Purchasing the car pack from Marketplace only gives you the ability to buy them -- whether or not you have the in-game funds to do so is entirely up to your career.
Q: I have recently sold/purchased a car on the Auction House, but have yet to receive my money/car. What's the deal?
A: The online Auction House relies heavily on Xbox Live servers in order to transfer items between users. If the Xbox Live service is experiencing heavy load issues or is down for maintenance, the Auction House will be delayed. Cars and money will be delivered normally once Xbox Live is back to optimal condition. Until that time please be patient in waiting for your goods to be delivered.
Q: Is it possible to create two Forza Motorsport 2 careers on the same Gamertag?
A: Yes, you can create one Forza Motorsport 2 profile on the same Gamertag per storage device. For example, you can have separate profiles on your memory card and your hard drive... or create as many profiles as you'd like on as many memory cards as you'd like.

Forzamotorsport.net Website Questions:
Q: My posts aren’t appearing on the forum after I post them. Why don’t they appear?
A: If you are not seeing your posts immediately after submitting them, it means that your posting privileges have been “Moderated”. Basically, all of your posts must be approved before they will appear on the website. If you are a new user, then remember that all new accounts are set-up to be “Moderated” when they are created. If your posts have been moderated intentionally then please visit your private messages Inbox, as the person who has moderated your posts will explain why your status has changed. If you can show us that you are capable of being a productive member of the community then you will have this restriction removed.
Q: I won a FM.net weekly competition but have yet to receive my gift car, or access to the Hall of Fame section on the forum. When will I be gifted the car and given access?
A: Gifted cars are usually sent out the Monday following Friday’s “Community Update”, as long as you have properly submitted your car request and gamertag to forzafb@microsoft.com. The permissions for the Winners Gallery are usually granted on Monday as well. Please be patient when waiting for these rewards, as many reasons can delay the process. If you have yet to receive either of these rewards by the Wednesday following the “Community Update”, then feel free to e-mail forzafb@microsoft.com asking why they have not been granted.
Q: I won a regular weekly in-game tournament (e.g., R1 class), and am wondering if I can get a free gift car for winning?
A: Currently we are only gifting cars to the winners of our custom weekly competitions (Hotlap, Photo Mode and Livery). We will not be gifting cars to the winners of the regular weekly tournaments as it will create various situations where people will ruin the experience for others in order to win the prize. If you would like a shot at a free car of choice then feel free to enter one of the various weekly competitions hosted on the forums. Read each of the Weekly Pitpass Reports on Fridays for more information on weekly competitions.
Q: What are the limited edition and unicorn cars that I can request after winning a weekly competition?
A: Along with any of the cars that originally shipped with the game you are allowed to request any of the Limited Edition or Unicorn Cars. We do not gift out premium cars that have been released as paid Downloadable Content. This includes the “Peugeot 908” along with all the cars included in past or future car packs. To see a complete list of cars that came on the disc with Forza 2, check this link: /news/announcements/carlist.htm
Q: When I post a photo I've taken in-game from Forza 2 by hotlinking it to a forum, it appears as a black box instead of my image. What did I do wrong?
A: FM.net does not allow image hosting or hotlinking from your "My Stats & Photos" page. Before posting an image that has been uploaded to FM.net, you must first upload it to an image host site. For a tutorial on how to properly post your images please visit the following thread: http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/forums/thread/182096.aspx
Q: How do I link my Gamertag to my FM.net account so I can download photos?
A: To link your Gamertag to your Windows Live ID email, please go through the following steps to verify/update a Player’s Xbox LIVE Contact Information:
1) From the Xbox Dashboard, select “Xbox LIVE Blade/Screen”.
2) Select “Xbox LIVE Marketplace”.
3) Select “Account Management”.
4) Select “Contact Information”.
5) Enter your account email and password, then select “Sign In”.
6) Email address is located on the Contact Information screen. Please ensure that your contact information is up-to-date.
Q: I have already created an account on this website and have linked my gamertag to my windows live ID. I would like to create a new account on this website with a new name. How do I link my gamertag to my new account?
A: Unfortunately, given our current forum software situation, we are not able to delete accounts (we can only ban) or disassociate Gamertags or Windows Live IDs from accounts you're already linked to. The only way to change your username and Windows Live ID email is to go into your Xbox Live account (see above steps) and change your email address -- then come back to FM.net and create a new account with a new username and link your new email address to your FM.net account.
